The Challenge: An Inefficient, Dispersed Lighting System
Large-scale hangar operations require consistent, bright light to ensure precision and safety during aircraft maintenance. The original lighting in this hangar consisted of clusters of multiple smaller lamps. These “cluster lights” were dispersed across the high ceilings, creating a complex and inefficient lighting pattern.
- Inefficient Illumination: Each cluster of smaller lamps lacked the focused power of a single, powerful high-bay fixture.
- High Maintenance: Replacing bulbs in these multi-lamp clusters at heights of 40-50 feet was a labor-intensive and frequent maintenance issue.
- Complex Infrastructure: The original ceiling was dense with conduits and hanging wires to support the dozens of separate lamps, making the space feel cluttered.

The original ceiling was packed with massive, complex cluster light fixtures. While they provided light, the pattern was visually overwhelming and maintenance-heavy. The hanging fixtures and numerous individual bulbs contributed to a cluttered ceiling structure that distracted from the high-tech work happening below.
The Solution: Efficiency and Power
Based on our assessment of the space, Cornelius Electric proposed a streamlined approach, leveraging high-performance LED technology to maximize visibility.
Area Illumination: Replace (44) 240-Watt, 34,200 Lumen LED UFO High Bays
To provide bright, even illumination across the main floor area where aircraft are serviced, we replaced 44 existing high-bays with state-of-the-art UFO High Bay LED fixtures.
- Massive Output: At 34,200 lumens per fixture, we provided over 1.5 million lumens of light to the hangar floor.
- Optimal Color: The 5000 Kelvin light provides a crisp, neutral daylight color—essential for task lighting, reducing eye strain, and improving safety for the hangar team.
- Clean Design: The “UFO” design provides a compact, robust fixture with a clear, focused light pattern, eliminating the “hot spots” of the old multi-lamp clusters.
The “After” View:
The difference is night and day. The complex clusters are gone, replaced by robust, single-point UFO LEDs. The lighting is now incredibly bright and even across the entire facility—from the inventory racking systems to the workbench areas. Even the large U.S. flag and the standard office entryways are now brilliantly and evenly lit, giving the hangar a modern, professional, and safer appearance.
