Stand by Power
The primary purpose of a standby power system is to ensure that the load does not lose power when there is a fault in the utility supply voltage. Standby power systems are very different from uninterruptible power systems (UPS), in the way they react to various situations. Unlike a UPS, which can instantly start providing backup power at full capacity, a standby system switches on very slowly (1-2 seconds) after a fault occurs. If a UPS is ever required to switch on less than one second after an interruption has occurred, it will never manage to do so.
